Laser Treatments for Rosacea that Get the Red Out!
Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory skin condition. Redness or flushing of the skin, and in severe cases, pimple-like bumps are the most common symptoms of rosacea. The mid face is most often affected but other parts of the face including the chin can also be involved. In most cases the condition causes no medical problems, but the characteristic reddened areas on the face can affect one’s appearance and create psychological problems. Patients from Mountain Lakes, Harding, Chester, and communities throughout northern New Jersey, choose Dermatology Consultants of Short Hills to treat their rosacea.
Rosacea results from an overabundance of capillaries, tiny blood vessels, under the skin in the affected areas.
These capillaries are prone to break, leaking blood beneath the skin that deepens the reddening. There are many underlying causes of rosacea. Hereditary predisposition is the most common, but rosacea can also be exacerbated by a variety of environmental factors including sun exposure, spicy foods, hot beverages, alcohol and extremes of weather such as very hot, cold or windy conditions.
With the advent of laser treatment for rosacea, rosacea skin treatments have entered a new era of effectiveness. The intense but gentle beam of laser light passes harmlessly through light skin but is absorbed by the red areas. The energy heats and destroys capillaries in the treatment area without damaging surrounding skin. Over several weeks, your body naturally absorbs the heated tissue. Several lasers are used to treat rosacea, including pulsed dye lasers (V-beam) and intense pulsed light. Rosacea treatments with these lasers are extremely safe, effective, and very well tolerated. Procedures typically require between 15 minutes and half an hour, and normal activities can be resumed immediately after laser treatment with no down time. For maximum effectiveness, several treatments are typically required. Browse our gallery to see photos taken before and after rosacea treatments.
